Snow Ice Cream Topped with Metal?

Growing up in the Midwest, snow ice cream was something I always looked forward to. All us kids would go get a plastic gallon bag, fill it with snow, salt, sugar, and vanilla and then mix it all up for a yummy dessert.

This winter, being especially frigid across the country snow ice cream was all over my social media. I was shocked to see someone doing a home experiment to test the quality of snow. The experiment concluded that there are metals in snow, and the argument was that this made snow unsafe to eat.

Now, I’m not a scientist of any kind but I am a research junkie. The conclusion I have come to is that anything is excess isn’t good and snow is included into this.

Fox Weather does a great job explaining that air pollutants and other chemicals such as pesticides do get into snow. Fox goes on to further say that the first snow fall is the most ‘unclean’ because snow works as natures air filter.

Now knowing what we know, maybe limit the amount of snow ice cream you eat this year…save the pint of ice cream binge for Ben and Jerry’s.
